Milly our newest rescue
I got a call from another rescue that asked if we could go look for this horse that a women called them on. I got her number and she met me at a shell station and I followed her back into this place that seemed like a bad dream. We drove down this road and saw dead horses, dogs, goats, and lots, and lots of them. I had my horse trailer behind me so I couldn’t go to some of the places she was showing me. I asked her to send me in the direction of where she saw the horse that was alive and thank god I had a 4 wheel drive. I went as far as I could with my truck and trailer and then had to go the rest of the way on foot, following the hoof prints. We walked and walked and then you know that feeling you get on Christmas morning when you got just what you dreamed of? There she was standing off in the distance looking at me from behind some trees. We went up to her and she was so friendly. I put the halter on her and we started to walk out. She was so dehydrated and weak she started to stumble, she also was having a hard time putting her back foot down and I knew she couldn’t make it to my truck and trailer, so my son and the lady that was with me held her so that I could run back and get my trailer to her. I had to put my truck into 4 wheel drive to get to her and one turn there had my trailer wheels hanging off a raveen, it scared the crap out of me but I couldn’t quit now. I got the trailer to her and she walked right in with no hesitation, like she had been waiting for someone to come back for her. Getting back out of there was just as tricky as getting in, but now I had a horse in the trailer. She was so good and stood as still as she could. We put some boards across the ledge there where my tires hung off the first time to try to make it safer for her. She never whinnied or moved she was just glad to be in the trailer no matter how rough that ride was. It was so sad, but she is here with us now, safe and sound and eating her Christmas carrots with all of her new rescued buddys. If you would like to help us with Millys care please donate on the donation button or send a check if you can. There are a lot of other horses here that would love to have a sponsor as well and the donations are needed for them too. Every little bit counts, and we are so grateful to be able to save these guys. With out your donations this wouldn’t be possible.

HEART First Time Horse Ownership Seminar #2
We just set a date for our next First Time Horse Ownership seminar – it will be on Saturday, January 30th from 8 am – noon. The seminar has been extended an extra hour, so that we can cover more topics.
One of our attendees from the last seminar in November had learned about recognizing the signs of colic at the seminar. She was put to the test just this last weekend when she was able to spot a horse with colic, thus able to get help from a qualified veterinarian.
Don’t miss out. This seminar is informative, even if you already own a horse.
The flyer will be on our website home page soon, so that it can be downloaded.
HEART Tack Sale
Our thanks to all of you who volunteered your time to work at Saturday’s Tack Sale, and thank you to all those who came out to support us that day. The weather was a little (OK, very) windy, but thank goodness it didn’t rain.
It being our first Tack Sale, it was successful. We still have a lot of tack left over, and will be planning another one very soon, so please watch our website home page for further information.
In the meantime, we are still conducting a Tack Drive, so if one of your New Year’s resolutions is to clean out your tack room, please consider donating any unwanted or unused tack to HEART of Tucson.
Thank you from the bottom of our HEARTS!
