Hi everyone, we are trying to collect as much tack as we can for our tack sale at Tucson Feeds at the Pantano Stables on Houghton rd. November 28th from 8 am to 1 pm. It will be a fun day with everyone getting to meet each other. We will have the Sheriffs posse search and rescue there, as well as entertainment, food, and refreshments. The Saddle Babes will be there as well with the new 2010 calendars. We will have our HEART t-shirts for sale as well. We are looking forward to seeing all of you and exchanging our stories. If you get the chance please come out and help us in our efforts to save, and support the horses.

Yesterday I was worried about the horses here that are waiting for covered stalls. I knew our temperatures were going to drop and the weather was going to get cold and nasty. I started going through our blankets here and realized we don’t have enough to go around. I picked out the worst conditioned horses that we have brought in to try and get them fitted first. I came in last night and checked my voice mail and found a message from a lady that said she had moved here from Oklahoma and she had several blankets she would like to donate to us, lol. I said did God call you? I was so amazed on how this worked out. She dropped the blankets off this morning and now they all have got blankets and no one is left out. I can’t thank you all enough for helping us in our efforts to make life better for these wonderful animals. And I know God has his hand in all of this as well. When these guys are malnourished they don’t have enough body fat to keep them warm so they loose weight from the cold. Weight they can’t afford to loose at this point. Thank you so much Charlotte for coming out today and leaving this wonderful gift for them. If you have any extra or old blankets laying around please donate them to your rescues, we often work with older horses that need a little extra warmth.
Thank you so much everyone

It has been a long week here for HEART. We went to a place in Marana last week where we found a yearling dying in his pen. The people tried to get us to leave, saying that they had to go into town. When we finally got in to see their horses (there were 20), we found a yearling dying from colic. We were able to get him to a clinic, but unfortunately, he passed away 3 hours later. HEART took three horses from there that were starving, but much to our dismay, we lost another one. I stayed with one of the mares all night and when she would wake up in pain, I would rub her and talk to her. The banamine helped, and then she would go back to sleep. In the morning, we got a vet out here and had to put her to sleep. She had so damage in her stomach there was no hope other than to stop her suffering. We also lost another mare this week due to an abscessed tooth that was never taken care of by her owner. She went toxic and died. Someone asked me a month ago how many horses have we lost, and I answered zero. I can’t say that anymore. We are trying to save so many now that the odds are against us, and more important, the odds are against them. I can only help so many with the funds we have, and homes we have. Please offer to foster if you have room, and please donate if you have a few extra bucks. We need everyone to help us in our efforts to save these horses before its to late. Please adopt a horse that needs a home, they are so greatful.
